Notice of Race
West Indies Events and The St.Maarten - St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta organization takes pleasure in inviting you to compete in the 4th invitational annual St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic yacht Regatta, January 22 to 25, 2009.
The organizing authority is the St.Maarten -
St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta Foundation affiliated to the
Sint Maarten Classic Yacht Club who is sanctioning the regatta.
The Regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing of
ISAF (2005 - 2009), this notice of race and by the sailing
instructions.
This is a “gentleman’s race” and any yacht being sailed in an
aggressive or reckless manner or displaying poor seamanship may
be excused from further participation.
The Regatta will be held for the following Classes that may get subdivided:
Classic Division: CSA Simplified Rating Rule
Spirit of Tradition Division: CSA Rating Rule
Vintage Division CSA Rating Rule
Tall Ships
Advertising
The event will be Category “A” as specified in the RRS 2005-2009.
The event organizers may require boats to display advertising in accordance with regulation 20.3.
Entries
Boats may enter by sending in their entry request
on line by filling out the form in the web site
www.ClassicRegatta.com or by sending an e-mail request to
info@ClassicRegatta.com no later than Wednesday January 21nd,
2009 but preferable before.
Registration can also be done the day before the regatta on
Thursday January 22th, 2009 but the entrance fee will
be higher.
Fees can be paid with credit card on line trough a secure and
encrypted server at
www.ClassicRegatta.com or in cash or with credit card in the
regatta office in Bobby’s Marina at Great
Bay,
St.Maarten, until the last registration day Thursday January 22th,
2009.
Al entry fees are in US Dollars and no checks are accepted.
Fees for all classes are US $4.00 p/feet and US $6.00 p/feet if
paid at the last day before the regatta (Thursday January 22th,
2009 )
Entry fees include the participation fees of the regatta, free
drinks at the openings party, a free beach buffet for captain
and crew members on Saturday January 24th 2009 and
other advantages.
Registration
Registration will be at the regatta office in
Bobby’s Marina at Great
Bay, St.Maarten Thursday
January 22th,
10:00am till 6:00pm.
Each entry form by this time must have attached a filled in CSA
simplified rating form ( you can download it
here )
(only for simplified classes).
CSA classes must have a valid 2008 CSA rating
certificate.
Only digitally certified certificates are considered valid.
Skippers Briefing
The Skippers Briefing will take place at the Greenhouse bar & Restaurant in Bobby’s Marina Great bay Philipsburg on Thursday January 22nd at 6.30pm
Schedule of Races
The scheduled time of the Warning Signal for the
first race on Friday January 23, & Sunday January 25 will not be
before 10:00.
The scheduled time of the Warning Signal for the first race on
Saturday January 24 will not be before
09:00.
Courses
The race courses will be on the waters around the islands of St.Maarten/St.Martin.
The sailing instructions and course details will be available at registration.
Scoring System
The Low Point scoring system, RRS rule A4.1, will apply except that a boat’s score will be the total of all her races. This changes RRS rule A2.
Changes to the Racing Rules
Rule 52 Manual power shall not apply
Protests
Protests are NOT encouraged.
Good sportsmanship and common sense should prevail.
Competitors are reminded that larger traditional yachts are not
noticeably maneuverable.
Safety should be given utmost priority.
If absolutely necessary, protests shall be lodged in accordance
with the ISAF regulations.
Prizes
When competing in the St.Maarten-St.Martin
Classic Yacht Regatta 2009 a 1st, 2nd and
3rd prize in each class can be won.
Overall trophies may be handed out and a perpetual trophy will
be reserved for a yacht which will eventually win a first place
three times in a time span of five years.
The perpetual trophy will remain on display at the regatta
headquarters office in Bobby’s Marina or at the Sint Maarten
Classic Yacht Club until eventually won by a participant in the
coming years.
CSA Rating Certificate
You will need an updated CSA rating certificate.
(Only for CSA classes)
Please note that the Spirit of Tradition Class
and Vintage Class require a full and currant CSA measurement
certificate.

Other Information
Multiple headsails may be flown, provided they are the vessel’s normal headsails, listed as such, declared on the Entry Form and have hanks or furling luff tape, or are part of the original designed sail inventory.
There will be no recalls, vessels judged to be over the line early will have a five-minute penalty added to their elapsed time.
