St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta

The first St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta was a huge success.
Despite the fact that several yachts could not make it in time due to the presence of a storm system over the Atlantic during their crossing and other yachts having some engine or other problems on their way to St.Maarten, six yachts participated in perfect conditions during this inaugural regatta.

To hear from several well known owners, skippers and crew, that the St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta was the BEST classic in which they have ever participated, was the highest honor for all of us who have organized this sailing event.

A big "Thank You" go's to Mirian Ebbers who was our Technical director, to the members of the Race Committee, the owners of the beautiful Start boat, the people who have placed the course buoys, all the "Dutch" volunteers, the members of the local and International press...

A standing ovation is in the right place for all the La Samana / Cupecoy Yacht Club executives and staff, cooks, waiters and others for the giant and extraordinary beach buffet and cocktail party which has highlighted our regatta.

Of course we would like to thank our sponsors for supporting us and to assist in this first edition of the regatta.
Most of them have already committed to continue their sponsorship for the upcoming event in 2007. The NEW St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta 2007 pre- poster is now available on line in this web site !

I would like to thank also both the St.Maarten Nature Foundation and the French Réserve Naturelle for which Anke organized the silent auction.
By assisting with their boats we could give the press and our "on the water " doctor a first view of what was happening and we are more than happy to present the check with the revenues of the auction as a gift to those organizations in the next days.

"Thank you" words also to the owners of the yachts, captains, and crew.
We will always remember you, who have done the effort to participate in this first edition of our regatta.

Thanks also to the members of "Les Sauveteurs en Mer" the Sea Rescue who have been around during the regatta days and ready to assist.

Thank you Richart Luckert, Valeska and Kurt for hosting the regatta at your Palapa Marina.
Thanks Mario for hosting the Auction and Award Giving Party at Rancho's and thank you Neil for the Openings Party.

A special "thank you" also for all the members of our own advisory board, without your efforts we would not have succeeded.

Thanks a million Peter Whiterose for the regatta music composition, Donald Tofias for supporting us, Dan and Tania, Paula, Anke, Jeroen, Veerle, Miriam, Johan, Els and Henk, Niels, Choco, Anno, Andre and many, many others. Thanks Tant, for being our good luck mascot and travel all the way from Belgium at age 85.

I look forward to the second edition of the St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta scheduled for January Thursday 18 - Friday 19 - Saturday 20 and Sunday 21, 2007 with more participating yachts and the same sailing spirit as this year.
